Overview

We were chosen to partner Samsung to design and introduce large screen kiosks into the West wing of The Bodleian library at the time of its re-fit. The design brief was extensive and deep given the centuries of history and heritage to be incorporated into the re-fit. Samsung supplied the screens and we at K4B created the designs in concert with the Library saff.

Key Objectives

The objective was to introduce upto the minute digital browsing technology on large screens for library users to interrogate the contents of the library. Additionally the style of the kiosks had to reflect the library's heritage and style. Plenty of wood and bronze was called for

The

Library Solution

Working with the library and Samsung to create the agreed look for the library but intelligent use of technology to ensure users were keen to use the digital search facilities on the large screens

Key Features

The kiosks in the main hall were 43" twin opposing screen kiosks to enable users to browse the kiosk simultaneously. All other desk kiosks were 27" screen kiosks for users to be sat at whilst they browsed the library contents. And finally the portable tablet player housed in a "libraryesque" wheelabout kiosk housing.

Conclusion

After much discussion with all parties the designs were agreed and then executed over a number of months. The resulting kiosks were crafted, delivered and fitted by ourselves at the library
